VeeamON 2022 – Session Explorer
VeeamON 2022 – May 16-19
For those of you not familiar with the VeeamON conference, it is Veeam software’s annual data protection summit where they showcase new products and features alongside their industry peers who work and integrate with Veeam products. Hardware vendors, software vendors, cloud hyperscalers, strategic Veeam Cloud Service Provider partners, and Veeam partners. All under one roof to showcase the art of possible with Veeam to help you define a robust data protection strategy, no matter where the data lives.
VeeamON 2022 is the 8th year this conference has been held, with 2022 marking the return of the in-person event after 2 years of virtual conferences. It is nice to see that the option to join in person or virtually is available this year as it makes the conference more accessible for all.
If you are reading this prior to the event, check out the registration page here.
If you have attended any kind of conference before, you will know that multiple sessions often run side by side which makes it difficult to pick the one to attend live. Luckily most sessions will be recorded and you can catch up on those you missed after the event. Below I am going to highlight which sessions I hope to attend and which I hope to catch up on after the fact.
Day 1 – May 17
All times below are for the live in-person sessions on Pacific Time (GMT -8)
09:00 – 10:00 General Session
The opening session for VeeamON and the only session running at this time. Taken from the agenda builder.
Anand Eswaran will share Veeam®’s vision for the future of Modern Data Protection, outline how to protect against cyber-threats and leverage the cloud to drive growth.
The next one is a difficult choice. there are 6 sessions running, all of which I would like to see but I will look to attend,
10:15 – 11:00 Veeam Backup & Replication v12: What’s new and introduction
I think this session will cover the broadest scope of what I am interested in.
This super session being brought to you live from Vegas will overview Veeam® Backup & Replication™ v12’s new capabilities. Throughout the rest of the event, there are technical breakouts that will overview many of detailed topics of V12. This session will overview what’s new in summary form.
Other sessions of interest at this time. VCPP, VMware Cloud Director and Veeam — Bringing It All Together as a Full Stack, Veeam Repository Best Practices, Voice of the Customer Panel
As a Veeam Cloud Service Provide, the topic of vCloud Director integration would be useful to see how that has advanced. The techy and support background in me likes to find out how to best configure something as well as hear from real people, stories about how they utilise the technology.
11:15 – 12:00 V12: New capabilities for service providers.
I work for iland, a Veeam service provider, so finding out what is coming will be very useful and how these enhancements can be leveraged to make our customer experience even better.
In this session, Anthony Spiteri and Tim Hudson will take a look at some of the new capabilities for service providers of all types. This session will highlight Veeam Backup & Replication v12 and also the Veeam Service Provider Console.
Other sessions of interest. Doing More with Your Backup Data, Harness the Power of the Data Integration API. How to Survive a Hack When You’ve Already Been Hacked.
Those two are something I would like to catch on video. There are some great examples of what you can do with the Veeam API. Ben Young has some cool examples on his blog here. Listening to how others recover from a hack situation can also help prepare you to avoid ending up in a similar situation.
13:30 – 14:15 The state of the Backup Market in 2022 & Beyond
The techie in me would attend a different session here. The trusted advisor in me has me heading for this session. It is good to keep abreast of how we can leverage our existing investments in backup and disaster recovery solutions for our future data protection and recovery requirements in the future.
Key takeaways: what is the current state of the backup/recovery market and vendors? What emerging approaches and techniques can I use to improve backup and data management? What is the future of backup and what are the best practices for aligning with the future?
The techie in me would go to the Beat the Gostev Challenge Lessons Learned. if you don’t know what that is about, the gauntlet was thrown down to see who can build a Veeam backup environment to backup data the quickest. The winners had a staggering data throughput of 147.7 GB/s. Yes, that is a capitalised B for bytes, not bits.
14:30 – 15:15 The Hitchhikers Guide to Kubernetes ― 101 Zero to Hero
Why not, it is good to keep on top of adjacent technologies outside of traditional virtualisation platforms and cloud hyperscalers.
Awareness is a great thing, as being informed will give you the advantages you need to make better decisions. In this session, we are going to boil down the complexities of Kubernetes and build out a cluster while explaining the fundamentals of the cloud-native platform
15:30 – 16:30 Permission to Dream
The end of day general session and I am really looking forward to this one. Something a little different from the tech sessions before it. Chris Gardner will talk about his life story that led him to write the best selling autobiography The Pursuit of Happyness and also influenced the Hollywood production of the same name.
Day 2 – May 18
08:30 – 10:00 VeeamON 2022 Technology General Session
Good start to the day with the promise of several live sessions.
This is the general session you were waiting for! Veeam® CTO Danny Allan will guide this session through a number of new and upcoming Veeam products, including several live demos. This session will focus on Veeam positioning on security, the cloud and Kubernetes.
10:15 – 11:00 Partner only: Reinventing your sales strategy to keep up with the shift in technology
If you are at VeeamON for your love of the technology then this one probably isn’t for you. To get a better well rounded understanding of market challenges and approaches to take with your customers for positioning Veeam, uncovering opportunities etc, then this will be a good session.
In this session, you will learn how to be a trusted advisor to your customers rather than just a reseller of IT. We’ll walk you through how to identify and answer top customer pain points, offer the right services or solutions that provide the desired business outcome
A trusted advisor is the key point to highlight there. Listening and understanding is key.
Other sessions of note, A PowerShell User’s Guide to RESTful APIs. This should be a good session to arm you with the knowledge to leverage Veeam products further to gather information for a NOC, for usage purposes, reporting, whatever. Check out this session.
11:15 – 12:00 LIVE! Veeam Trivia Show
Hosted by Rasmus Haslund AKA Mr VMCE. Rasmus is the Veeam Certified Trainer program manager for Veeam. If you have sat a Veeam course or exam, chances are Rasmus has had a part in it. Test your knowledge of Veeam or learn more about the products
Most other sessions that is on at this time I would like to see as well. They are Data Recovery Best Practices: Self-service portal with delegation, Veeam Explorers and more. Cloud Journey, Everything as a Service… Modern Point of View. and Veeam Object-Level Immutability Configuration and Best Practices.
13:30 – 14:15 TOP Secret: VeeamON exclusive access session
I mean, who doesn’t want to go to a top-secret session? I honestly don’t know what this one is about but it is in the cloud-powered category.
There are also best practice sessions running at the same time for Veeam Proxy sizing, Veeam hardened repository configuration and an Object Storage enhancements deep dive.
14:30 – 15:15 V12: Security Enhancements
Security is always a hot topic, in this session we will find out how to enhance security with Veeam through the use of Multi-Factor Authentication and enhanced Role-Based Access Controls.
Other sessions of note, Driving Innovation Through the Power of APIs I suspect will be run by Veeam Vanguard Ben Young, he has done some really cool things with the Veeam API. Definitely once to check out. Primed for Object lessons learned from the field when sizing to use object storage. Should be some valuable knowledge to impart on the audience with this one, especially as we move towards object being a primary target for Veeam backups.
15:30 – 16:15 Learn from 1,000 Cyber-Attacks: 5 Key Considerations in aligning Backup with Ransomware-Preparedness
Be the first to hear the results of one of the largest independent research results on ransomware preparedness and response, based on 1,000 unbiased and 200 Veeam® customers across nine countries around the world ― all of whom survived a cyber-attack
Always an important conversation piece. Is Veeam the answer to ransomware? No. Is it an essential tool in your wider suite of ransomware protection capabilities? Absolutely! It will be interesting to spot the trends in those organisations who have been attacked and how they have recovered and since better protected themselves from future ransomware attacks.
Other sessions of interest that I will try and catch up on after the event are Partner only: Public cloud Marketplaces ―Threat or Opportunity?, Design Methodology for Success.
17:15 – 18:30 Women In Green Reception
I can not join this one, for obvious reasons, but it is great to see this on the agenda builder. A snippet from the excerpt.

18:30 – sleep o clock. Veeam’s Legendary Party at Drai’s
A chance to shoot the breeze with friends old and new, a fitting way to round off the event!
A jam packed agenda with a little something for everyone be that if you are tech or sales focussed. I look forward to meeting you all there!
